Participants:A total of more than 100 participants from Taiwan and the United Kingdom attended the Meeting. The keynote speakers include Dr. Chii-Ming Yiin, Administrative Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Hung-Mao Tien, Representative of Taipei Representative Office in the UK and Lord Faulkner of Worcester.
Important Discussion Subjects & Conclusion:
Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Group: There was a shared desire by both Taiwan and UK delegates to find and implement collaborative ventures and these could be in many areas through the innovation pipeline, manufacturing and marketing. Some potential collaborative areas noted in discussions included: screening for bioactive natural products (reflecting Taiwan’s strong interest in traditional medicines), development of diagnostics, support for clinical trials and joint investment.
ICT Group:Two main themes of convergence of mobile communications with wireless networks, and digital content and e-applications were discussed. The overviews of UK and Taiwan market status and the general global position looking at trends, innovation, risks and opportunities for collaboration gave a basis for interactive discussions.
Infrastructure Group: Opportunities existed for collaboration between UK and Taiwan in respect of BOT type projects with Taiwan. It was recognized the current model being used in Taiwan was to technically prescriptive to encourage UK involvement and investment. The third market collaboration is proposed to extend to all Chinese speaking sub markets within other countries.
