Participants:A total of more than 180 participants from Taiwan and the United Kingdom attended the Meeting, which attracted most participants in the history of TBBC. The theme of this Meeting relied on major economic projects actively promoted by our government, including “Challenge 2008: National Development Plan”, “Two Billion, Twin Stars”, “Digital Taiwan”, and the “2003 Business Alliance”. Dr. Chii-Ming Yiin, Administrative Vice Minister, Ministry of Economic Affairs of ROC was invited to give his welcome remarks in the meeting.
Important Discussion Subjects & Conclusion:
Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals Group:Exploring collaboration opportunities (technical transfer from UK; venture capital from Taiwan) to compete for a bigger share in the Asia-Pacific market. The possible collaboration fields between Britain and Taiwan were identified in biomedical applications of nanotechnology, medical device, and healthcare industry
IT and Telecommunication Group:Both sides agree to identify and promote the cross-sectoral effect of ICT and its significance in enabling the growth of other industries and enterprises. To extend to the international market, we agree to explore the possible collaboration in the fields of online gaming market, and by means of upgrading the broadband links with other countries.
Infrastructure, Retail and Professional Services Sector Group:Since many foreign firms hope to use Taiwan as a springboard to enter into Mainland China market. British infrastructure firms who want to explore China market are suggested to take this regional approach to their strategy. The ROC government need for private sector cooperation in infrastructure development was presented. 11 of 16 priority sectors in progress such as railway, medicine, water facilities, science based parks, etc., was highlighted to provide an opportunity for all businessmen to consider in order to materialize the cooperation plans.
